چکیده

In this study, it was aimed to determine some forage quality characteristics of sweet sorghum genotypes in semi-arid climatic conditions. The experiment set up randomized complete block design with 4 replicates. Research carried out 2016 and 2017 under Harran Plain second crop conditions, Sanliurfa, Turkey. the study 21 were used. Crude protein content, crude ash, acid detergent fiber (ADF), neutral (NDF), dry matter digestibility, consumption, determined study. Significant differences found between for tested (P≤0.01). According average two years, content ranged from 4.20% (Tracy) 5.90% (USDA S.Africa), ash 4.44% (Theis) 6.90% (Topper 76), (ADF) 27.84% (Nebraska sugar) 36.30% (USDA-Zaire). highest NDF value obtained USDA-Zaire genotype (56.49%) whereas lowest values seen at N98 (43.11%). Dry digestibility 60.62% (USDA-Zaire) 67.21% sugar), consumption 2.14% 2.85%. relative feed (148.95) (101.00). Net energy 1.38 Mcal kg-1 1.50 sugar). Considering properties examined terms quality, that net low. But ADF, NDF, digestible matter, within acceptable levels. Nebraska sugar, Topper 76, N98, Roma, M81E, Tracy Corina as best sorghum. It can be used a source.

Evaluation of yield stability of forage sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] genotypes using AMMI analysis

Sorghum is an important forage crop used as silage, fresh forage and dry forage. To evaluate the yield stability of 16 genotypes; cultivars, lines and hybrids, of forage sorghum, experiments were conducted using randomized complete block design with three replications during 2016-17 at Karaj, Isfahan, Gorgan, and Mashhad field stations, Iran. The results of combined analysis of variance showed ...

Inheritance of Resistance to Sorghum Shoot Fly, Atherigona soccata in Sorghum, Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench

Sorghum production is affected by a wide array of biotic constraints, of which sorghum shoot fly, Atherigona soccata is the most important pest, which severely damages the sorghum crop during the seedling stage. Host plant resistance is one of the major components to control sorghum shoot fly, A. soccata. To understand the nature of gene action for inheritance of shoot fly resistance, we evalua...

B-Glucans in the Caryopsis of Sorghum Bicolor (L.) Moench

Fluorescence microscopy was used to determine the l ocation of Bglucans in sorghum. Sections from three genetically different sorghum cultivars were st ained with Calcofluor or Congo Red , fluorochromes which have been reported to react with 13-glucans. Autofluorescence, indicative of ferulic acid in other cereals, was observed in untreated sections. When stained sections were treated with endo...

Selection of plant growth-promoting bacteria in sweet sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) under the effects of salinity

Background Sorghum, a grassy non-halophyte, it is both drought and salinity tolerant, and is considered a promising crop for semiarid regions. During the last 20 years, its culture has expanded in Brazilian production by 780%, reaching 1,928,970 tons in 2009 [1]. Salinization of the soil and lack of rain are increasing constraints in semiarid regions. They predominate in northeastern Brazil. Th...

Dynamics of Fertilizer Nitrogen Applied to Sweet Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) in the Semi-Arid Tropics

Although sweet sorghum is in focus as a promising multi-purpose crop in semi-arid tropical regions, information on optimum nitrogen (N) management remains rather limited. To determine and understand the N dynamics in sweet sorghum-soil ecosystem, we evaluated the N recovery of applied fertilizer in the Alfisol field during the 2009 and 2010 rainy seasons. Sweet sorghum was grown under six N rat...
